Favorite Childhood Memory: Going on a mini holiday with my family where I fed the giraffes, made new friends by the pool, and ran head first into a closed glass sliding door!

Kat Martin Nelson, Co-Camp Director/Owner

“Guilty” Pleasure: Cheeze-Its and Cream cheese (don’t knock it til you try it!)
Favorite Childhood Memory: Playing on the beach with my Sister and pretending we were stranded on an island in the ocean and had to survive there together.

Kat grew up at Kamaji as a camper and then went on to work as a cabin counselor and waterski instructor before she worked on the Leadership team as a Unit Director. After she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004 she began working year-round as Kamaji’s Associate Director. Kat and Jason became the owners and directors of Kamaji in 2013.

Kat has spent over 25 summers at Camp Kamaji! She handles all things camper related from recruitment to cabin life to extra hugs and high-fives! She also manages our health center and our general camp program.

Jason Nelson, Co-Camp Director/Owner 

Jason grew up in the wild outdoors of Michigan and received his finance degree from Western Michigan University. He then worked in Chicago for over 10 years on the finance side of commercial real estate and operations management.

Jason has been at Kamaji since 2013 and handles all things finance, kitchen, and wilderness trip related. You never know where you’ll find him at camp- he’s always on the move!
