Some Places Just Feel Like Home.

Camp Kamaji has been shaping girls into the best versions of themselves for generations.

Camp Kamaji is Minnesota’s longest-standing all-girls sleepaway camp, nestled in the northwoods and completely removed from the noise of everyday life. No phones. No screens. No pressure to perform for anyone. Just girls, nature, and the kind of summer that stays with you forever.

Who We Are

Camp Kamaji is Minnesota’s longest-standing all-girls sleepaway camp, nestled in the northwoods and completely removed from the noise of everyday life. No phones. No screens. No pressure to perform for anyone.

Just girls, nature, and the kind of summer that stays with you forever.

We are a family-owned and operated camp, and we mean that in every sense of the word. Our director, Kat Nelson, grew up at Kamaji as a camper herself. She fell in love with this place long before she ever imagined running it. Today, she is watching her own daughter grow up here too, right alongside the girls whose families trust us with their summers.

Cue Camp Kamaji

We believe girls are capable of so much more than the world gives them credit for.

We believe a summer away from devices and social pressure is not a sacrifice. It is a gift. When you take away the noise, something remarkable happens: girls find out who they actually are.

At Kamaji, your daughter will try things she has never tried before. She will fall down and get back up without anyone filming it. She will make friends who know her before they know her Instagram. She will go to sleep tired in the best possible way, and wake up ready to do it all again.

Kamaji is completely phone-free and screen-free. This is not a rule we apologize for. It is one of the things we are most proud of.

“Having friends” here is not determined by how many likes you get on your post. Instead, friendships are formed while girls are sitting in an boat together. Girls become friends while walking together to fill water bottles before going to bed. They cement their friendships while sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in the cabins making bracelets.

We offer more than 20 activities, from waterskiing and horseback riding to sailing, archery, and wilderness trips. But the activities are just the beginning. What your daughter takes home is confidence, independence, and a deep sense of what she is capable of.

We are small enough that every girl is known by name, and big enough to offer a full summer of adventure. Our staff are experienced, trained, and many of them are Kamaji alumni themselves.

And because we are family-owned, every decision we make starts with one question: is this what is best for the girls?

Summer Camp Allows Them a Break

They are able to act like kids, they are given permission to be goofy, silly, and deliriously happy. These opportunities at Kamaji help them to grow more independent, feel a greater sense of self, and learn about what true happiness feels like.

If you are reading this and something in you is saying yes, trust that feeling.

The girls who find Kamaji keep coming back. Some of them for five summers. Some of them for ten. And now some of them are sending their own daughters.

We would love to be part of your family’s story too.
